Pepper is a 9 year old, 14.3 hand John mule. Pepper is that reliable mule that you know you can pull out and he will get you safely where you need to go. He stands tied quietly to tack up. He stands to mount, and he will ride off the same every day whether you ride him every day, once a month, or once a year. He is a mountain goat when it comes to the trails. There is not terrain to rough for this guy. He is careful with where he puts his feet. He steps over logs, crosses water, goes up and down banks, slides down soft rock and clay banks, and will go just about anywhere else you want to go. He travels out alone or with the group. He is a great hunting mule. He has been out on 3rd season Colorado Elk Hunt this year. You can saddle him up in the dark and ride out to scout elk. You can ride him with your backpack on and gun sling attached. He stands quietly when you need to stop and scout. He doesn’t get rattled if you come across mule deer, or even white tail back in the east. He stands out on the highline overnight with no issues. Pepper gets along great in a herd situation when turned out. He neck reins. While I would not call him truly gaited, he has an extremely nice, ground covering walk. He gets into a rhythm and he starts head shaking and ear flopping with the best of them! He also has a very nice, smooth rocking chair lope.
